Notification Badge Behavior
The notification badge in ServiceMax Go helps users keep track of new alerts, reminders, and messages. It appears both on the app icon and within the app on the notification bell, showing the total number of active notifications.
What the Notification Badge Shows
The notification badge displays the total number of notifications currently available in the device’s notification tray for the Go app. This includes both remote and local notifications such as reminders or geofence alerts.
• The badge appears on the app icon (outside the app) and the notification bell (inside the app).
• Both badges display the same count at all times.
• The count is based on the notifications in the system tray, not unread messages in the app.
When the Badge Appears or Updates
The badge appears whenever a new notification is received and synchronizes automatically with the system tray during specific user or app events.
• A new notification arrives on the device.
• The app moves between foreground and background.
• The user taps any notification in the system tray.
• The user taps the notification bell inside the app.
These actions trigger synchronization, ensuring the badge count reflects the actual number of active notifications.
How the Badge Gets Cleared
The badge count clears when you tap the notification bell icon inside the app. This action also clears the Go-related notifications from your device’s notification tray — so both your in-app badge and app icon badge disappear together.
You can also clear notifications directly from your phone’s notification tray:
• If you clear them all at once, the app badge disappears when the app next syncs.
• If you clear them one by one, the badge count will go down gradually. This depends on your phone model and operating system.

If you’re already viewing the Notification screen and new notifications arrive, the badge does not disappear immediately. Once you switch to another tab and come back, tapping the bell will clear it.

Behavior on iOS Devices
• iOS shows the exact number of unread Go notifications on the app icon.
• The number resets to zero when notifications are cleared from the system tray or by tapping the bell inside the app.
• The badge always updates the next time the app becomes active, if not cleared immediately.
Examples:
• You receive 3 notifications, badge shows 3.
• You tap the notification bell, badge resets to 0 and notifications are cleared from your system tray.
Behavior on Android Devices
General Android Devices (Non-Pixel)
• Many Android devices show the badge number up to 999+, depending on the phone manufacturer.
• Inside the Go app, counts up to 9 are shown as the exact number, but anything 10 or higher appears as 9+.
• Some devices may only show a small dot indicator on the app icon instead of a number, that depends on your launcher settings.
Pixel and OnePlus Devices
• Pixel and certain OnePlus phones do not display numeric badges, instead, you see a small dot when new notifications arrive.
• Inside the Go app, you still see the numeric count, or 9+ on the notification bell.
Clearing Notifications
• When you clear notifications from the Android notification tray, the app badge also clears.
• If you dismiss notifications one at a time, the badge count will decrease step-by-step, where supported by the device OS.
When the Notification Tab Isn’t Shown
If your Go app does not have a Notifications tab in the bottom navigation, the badge on your app icon still works. When new notifications arrive, you see the badge on the app icon. Once you clear your device’s notification tray, the badge disappears automatically.
Special Cases & Reminders
• Local notifications (like reminders or geofence alerts) also contribute to the badge count since they appear in the device tray.
• Deep links opened from notifications only clears the badge if they take you to the Notifications screen.
• The badge always reflects what’s currently in your system tray, not what’s read or unread inside the app.
