Parts Usage
Parts Usage allows field engineers and technicians to record parts consumed after completing a Work Order or Work Plan. The requirement for parts is usually driven by reorder levels. The Parts Request does not have the context of a service event; the parts are not requested for a specific Work Order. Accurate usage recording ensures correct customer billing, supports audit readiness, and maintains data consistency across systems.
The following topics are covered in this article:
Part Usage or Consumption in Work Plans
In the Work Plan, you can order recommended parts and update parts consumption for serialized and non-serailized parts. For more information, see Updating Part Consumption.
When the part usage is configured in your org, the end user actions related to part consumption in the Work Plan flow trigger the part-related updates in the background. These updates facilitate better management of parts with respect to Installed Products and other product-related data. For more information, see Part Consumption Process Flow.
Part Usage or Consumption in Work Orders
In the Work Order, you can use the Record T&M SFM to record usage or consumption lines at Work Order level. For more information, see Recording Usage or Consumption for a Work Order.
After creating consumption or usage lines for a Work Order, you can post the consumption to inventory to ensure accurate stock tracking and maintain inventory accountability. For more information, see Posting Usage/Consumption to Inventory.
